The Queen Elizabeth II Garden
THE CHALLENGE
The Queen’s memorial metalwork in Regent’s Park is a high-profile, public-facing installation exposed to constant environmental stress – UV rays, rain, pollution, and physical contact from visitors. The key challenge was to achieve a finish that not only delivers a refined, heritage-appropriate bronze aesthetic but also maintains long-term durability without frequent maintenance. Additionally, the finish needed to complement both the traditional brick structure and the surrounding natural landscape, while adhering to conservation sensitivities for a landmark setting.
THE SOLUTION
Bradleys Metal Finishes applied a bespoke bronze finish from the SteelAge Range, designed specifically for architectural metalwork in demanding outdoor environments. The solution combined:
- Specialist Surface Preparation: Ensuring optimal adhesion and consistency across complex metal forms, including the intricate floral detailing.
- Hand-Applied Patination Techniques: Creating depth, variation, and an authentic aged bronze appearance that enhances the artistic quality of the installation.
- Protective Coating System: A durable, weather-resistant seal that safeguards against corrosion, UV degradation, and wear from public interaction.
- Custom Colour Matching: Tailoring the tone of the bronze to harmonise with the historic brickwork and surrounding greenery, ensuring the structure sits naturally within the park setting.
This approach delivers a finish that is both visually striking and technically robust – reducing lifecycle maintenance while preserving the intended aesthetic for years to come.
