THE CHALLENGE

To give the busy Southside Shopping Centre a stylishly aged look with timeless rust, without causing staining on the pavement and walls or transferring onto people’s hands and clothes.
It also needed to be done within a time frame so waiting for the rust to happen wouldn’t allow for this. There were also a variety of designs to cater for and needed to be cost effective.

THE SOLUTION

Bradleys Oxide became the obvious choice which gave the exceptional look and even feel of rust without all the added complications. It worked over the variety of substrates used including mild steel and aluminium which enable the design intent to be met. The items were completely fabricated first before the rust process and unlike Corten, there is no time lost waiting for it to rust and doesn’t require a seal coat.

THE DETAIL

Located in the centre of Wandsworth, Southside is a major shopping destination in southwest London. It first opened its doors in 1971 under the name Wandsworth Arndale Centre and was once considered the largest indoor shopping complex in Europe. Today, it continues to be one of the city’s biggest retail hubs, offering over 600,000 square feet of shopping space and welcoming millions of visitors each year.
