India Buildings
THE CHALLENGE
To support the architect with a coppery bronze finish which was durable for a reception area and yet met the needs associated with the refurbishment of a Grade II listed building in Liverpool City Centre. Being a natural product, consistency in shade and aging across the area was also important.
THE SOLUTION
Bradleys recommended Old Penny Bronze from the Metalite Range. With a good copper content, when patinated and waxed this gave a superb finish to the speed gates. Being resin based it provides excellent durability and also has the advantage of being quite a forgiving finish. In a regular traffic area and surface marks can actually become a part of the character of the bronze.
THE DETAIL
India Buildings, located in Liverpool and built between 1924 and 1932, combines Italian Renaissance design with American Beaux-Arts features. Bombed in 1941, it was later restored by one of its original architects. Today, it serves as an HMRC Regional Centre.
