Gabriel Square – St Albans

Gabriel Square

THE CHALLENGE

As the work would be installed on site for several weeks before the project was completed, it was critical to ensure the coated work was protected against inevitable site damage from other trades.

THE SOLUTION

Bradleys used robust packaging to protect each external face of the balustrade and secured it with cable ties and low-tack masking tape, located strategically to ensure the balustrade could be installed without removing all the packaging.

THE DETAIL

Gabriel Square is a residential development in St Albans and includes apartments, duplexes and town-houses. It has been inspired by modernist architecture and is arranged around a large landscaped garden, acknowledging London’s traditional garden squares.

The homes have great natural light from the full height windows whilst the brise soleil, with timber vents, protects against solar glare.

Residents enjoy many valuable benefits including underground parking, roof gardens, balconies, terraces and their own private gardens.

Many of the homes have a bridge leading to the front door. Below the bridge is their own private garden space that is accessed from the basement – a luxury enjoyed by few basements!

Spiral staircases lead from the terraces to the gardens and are clad with timber, increasing privacy while creating an attractive feature at the same time.

Bradleys coated vast amounts of architectural metalwork throughout the project, including terrace and garden balustrades, balcony cladding, brise soleil framework, spiral staircases, privacy screens, podium rails, handrail, posts and ladders.

The vast majority of the metalwork was mild steel, which Bradleys hot zinc sprayed and powder coated, ensuring a strong anti-corrosive and aesthetically attractive finish.

The residents enjoy the appearance and touch of the coated work whilst having peace of mind that, as it is a good quality strong coating, it will last for a long time without requiring expensive on-going maintenance.

It is clear throughout the development that a lot of time has been spent carefully planning every detail with a strong emphasis on quality, a tribute to all involved in this project, a very rewarding result!

It cannot be stressed enough how impressed and delighted I was unwrapping the final railings on site the other week almost 18 months after they were first installed.

Please convey my delight and respect to all those responsible for the solution adopted, they nailed it!

It is no small part that Bradleys played in delivering probably the best quality products that we have ever installed with great success all round.
