The Londoner, Super Boutique Luxury Hotel
Feature Staircase in Bradleys’ Antique Brass Finish
THE CHALLENGE
The client wanted a large feature spiral staircase finished in Bradleys bespoke Antique Brass for the world renowned ‘Londoner’ by Edwardian Hotels in Leicester Square. The staircase, reaching 4 levels below ground and 1 above, was made up of 20 sections weighing up to 5 tonne each. The sheer scale of logistics was a challenge from not only processing the items, but also providing packing for protection right up to installation when the last bolt was secured. Consistency in the finish was essential and a challenge to bring together the top, the inside, the outside and the underside of every section as well as hand-working with natural materials which age overtime.
THE SOLUTION
Bradleys worked closely with the fabricator to put several measures in place including a 16-tonne forklift and specially made jigs, each one bespoke to its stair section. To enable the effective and efficient finishing in the Antique Brass, these jigs were welded and fitted with wheels for manoeuvrability and became the temporary home for each stair section whilst going through the finishing process, and for transportation. Our in-house, skilled craftsmen worked hard to maintain the consistency of the aged brass finish across each section and a specialist hand-patination process was employed for the brass aging effect. Packaging itself was a major part of the project with bespoke timber framework and sheeting being used – handmade to fit each stair section. Bradleys sent in a site team to ensure end-to-end quality was delivered.
