Bank Station

Bank Station

THE CHALLENGE

To produce a double-storey feature wall resembling patinated brass, comprising approximately 50 7-meter-long panels of various shapes. Concealing joints and ensuring consistency were crucial for its aesthetic appeal. Durability and compliance with London Underground’s strict fire regulations were also prioritised due to the partially underground setting.

THE SOLUTION

Bradleys used their Metalite process to achieve the patinated brass finish, collaborating with the architect. They tested panels for smoke and droplet resistance and passed London Underground’s fire tests with a waxed finish. Bradleys also addressed post-installation damage on-site, including the challenge of working over an escalator.

THE DETAIL

Bank Station’s £700 million, seven-year TFL upgrade provides step-free Northern Line access and increased capacity; with 31 escalators, it handles over 100,000 weekday interchanges, the most in the network.
